The undertaken actions and the encountered challenges in the process of implementing the legal framework for preventing and combating money laundering were the main topics of the conference "Pria AML Republic of Moldova", held on Thursday, February 10, in online format.

The event organized by Priaevents is at its second edition and brought together this year supervisory authorities and reporting entities, including banks, insurance companies, non-bank credit organizations, notaries, real estate agencies, professional associations, etc.

In her welcome message, Elena Pui, Secretary General of the NCFM, underlined that the issue of anti-money laundering and financing of terrorism remains the topic of the day and is one of the main concerns of the authorities, implicitly of the NCFM.

"Soon it will be 4 years since the entry into force of the Law on preventing and combating money laundering - Law no. 308/2017 and one year from the implementation of Law no. 75/2020 related to the application of sanctions in this field, the implementation of which proves to be a complex and long process, with the active participation not only of the relevant authorities, but also, of the reporting entities. By implementing and carrying out the actions, we pursue the objective of reducing the risks/counteracting money laundering and financing of terrorism in order to protect the financial system from attempts to use it for illicit purposes", mentioned the Secretary General of NCFM.

Ms. Elena Pui specified that in 2021, the National Commission did not apply fines for violations in this field, thus the Law no. 75/2020 on sanctions aimed rather at discouraging such violations, and NCFM, through the promoted policies, tends to provide all necessary support - training, consultation, guidance - for the proper implementation of the anti-money laundering and terrorism financing regulatory framework.
